Become Part of Generation Impact! (My 2020 Vision)

It's New Year's eve and I have been reflecting a lot on my goals for 2020. I know that I want to help more young people make the world a better place and have the impact they want to have. But I know that I cannot do it alone! I need more people to join the GenImpact cause!

Let me explain:

Generation Impact aims to share opportunities and resources that help young people make a difference. Part of that is asking a lot of questions, researching and producing content. I have come to realize that I cannot do this alone - I need your help! It's simple - more minds can share more information (and it's more fun too).

What are these Collaborative Sessions? How long will this project take?

The collaborative sessions aim to create a blog post, a video or another medium (maybe you want to write a song?) in order to share information about opportunities and resources about how young people can make a difference. Groups will consist of 3-5 people from all over the world and work together for 2-3 weeks. There are a variety of topics you can choose from e.g how to apply for university scholarships, what young people can do about climate change, how what we choose to buy can make a difference, mental health and many more. You can also propose your own topics!

It’s all about meeting new people while empowering more youth to make a difference and become the change-makers they want to be.

The timeline of each project will look like this:

Kick-off session (1h)* - A Video call with all group members on their topic

• Get to know each other

• Define your topic

• Decide what kind of medium you want to produce and how

• Distribute roles

Individual work/pair collaboration (3-4h)*

• Research on the topic (a lot of googling, asking friends/posting on social media..)

• Creation of content (writing, filming, recording, etc)

Publication of your medium

• Share your article/video/medium with the world through the GenImpact website and your own social media

• Help other youth make a difference and become changemakers!

• Celebrate your impact with your team!

For the session leaders, there will be check-ins before and during the projects so you can receive support on your facilitation and progress.

Requirements

It doesn't matter how old you are or where you come from, as long as you have access to the internet and are comfortable communicating in English.

We will be using a variety of online platforms to collaborate, so access to the internet is required. Moreover, you should be comfortable communicating in English (but it's absolutely okay if you are not fluent!)

Overall this will span over about 2-3 weeks depending on your group’s schedule.

What role can you take on?

A session leader

(Total 7-8h flexible time commitment)*

- reads applications and selects contributors

- helps organize collaborative sessions

- facilitates online sessions

- makes sure the project is completed in time

- looks after the contributors

A contributor

(Total 3-5h flexible time commitment)*

- helps create content (e.g writing, filming)

- does research on change-making topics

- collaborates with other contributors

Social Media/Marketing/PR person

(Weekly 1h time commitment February-May 2020)*

I am terrible with keeping my social media channels up to date, would you like to help me with that? It would involve creating posts for the Generation Impact Instagram and Facebook (and other?) accounts, as well as help with outreach.

Apart from the initial kick-off sessions and the check-ins/training for leaders, you can decide when you want to work on this, so you can work this into a busy work or school schedule.

What do you gain for this?

• More inspiration and knowledge on how to make a difference

What is the time commitment?

That depends on your role!

A session leader will probably have to commit around 7-8h* of their time (per project) including planning and facilitating sessions.

A contributor only has to participate in the sessions and spend some time outside to do research plus anything else that needs to be done to complete the projects. Overall a contributor should expect to spend about 3-5h* on this.

The Social Media/Marketing/PR person should be able to commit to about 1h a week (minimum) starting February-May 2020.

How many sessions can I apply to?

You can apply to be part of as many sessions as you want. Depending on your qualifications and time commitment you may be allocated more than one but maximum three projects!

Only one application per session/project is required.

Do the sessions cost anything?

No, the sessions are completely free.
